Egypt minister warns of the Brotherhood’s influence on public

CAIRO: Egypt’s Minister of State for Family and Population Moshita Khatab said at a press conference on Sunday that the problem Egypt faces is not about failing to unify public opinion on a specific issue, “as some issues need to be supported by public opinion,” but instead said that the country’s most powerful opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood is co-opting society in “negative” directions. She pointed out that there are some non-official political movements – referring to the Muslim Brotherhood – that have a “powerful and significant impact on public opinion.”
The minister added at the press conference held on the sidelines of the conference “20 years on the Convention of the Rights of the Child and Islamic Shariah,” which was held in participation with the Organization of Islamic Countries to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child and the establishment of the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on Sunday.
The conference dealt with the rights of children from an Islamic perspective and not the rights of the Muslim child only, as the conference focused on the most difficult issues, namely, the reservations made by some states party to the convention of the Rights of the Child, with a focus on the “mini models, which withdrew its reservations, such as Pakistan.”
Khatab pointed out that Egypt was one of the countries which called for the initial summit for the rights of children in 1990 and Islamic countries agreed on the importance of children’s rights by ratifying the Convention, with the exception of Somalia.
The minister argued that in Egypt, much of the problems facing the country, in terms of health issues for women and children, is a direct result of the Brotherhood creating a society that views “everything through the conservative Islamic prism.”
The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Countries, Ihsan Ouglo, added that the issues of women and children is one of the new topics on the organization’s agenda, affirming that the fundamentals of Islam are not incompatible with contemporary values and ideals as can be coordinated afar from extremism.

Oh how cute!!! Are they one more time undusting the little white ghost, called “Moslembrothers” to scare people? Can’t help but laugh. Do they truly believe that people in the right frame of mind and who can assess situations by themselves still believe them?
“The minister argued that in Egypt, much of the problems facing the country, in terms of health issues for women and children, is a direct result of the Brotherhood creating a society that views “everything through the conservative Islamic prism.—
The problems facing this beautiful country are the DIRECT result of more than 30 years of negligence, corruption, nepotism, playing to the tunes of Big Brother (USrael) et al and – most important – not caring an iota for the wellbeing and wellfare of the common Egpytian.
The Brotherhood just chips in, tries to aleviate the most pressing problems of the poorest and takes advantage of the situation while in reality they are pritty much part of the system. And who is to blame???
You can add it up yourself.
On a second (overnight thought) the following came to my mind: Islam teaches among many other positive values that one should take care of one’s 7th neighbour!
So … if it where true what the Minister uttered from his tight corner “… a direct result of the Brotherhood creating a society that views “everything through the conservative Islamic prism.â€â€ then we should have the perfect society.
We should not have the MILLIONS of street children with (mainly) the girls taken into day shelters, giving them food, cleaning them up … and KICKING THEM OUT WHEN NIGHT COMES!!! If the motives of these many shelters were honorable they would keep them in at night …
As I often say: “Honnit soit qui mal y pense!”
But I guess the honorable Minister isn’t aware neither of the Qu’ran nor of the shelters … nor of the rest. I can’t help but wonder: is he aware of ANYTHING at all?????
Exactly Eleonora !!!
But bear in mind how the Taliban were able to infiltrate Afghanistan and share this with your Egyptian comrades because if Egypt isn’t careful the Brotherhood will do to Egypt, what the Taliban did to Afghanistan.
I had a very good chat with a tour rep when I was in Luxor last year. She was astonished by my knowledge but swore up and down that Egypt would never fall. I told her that if I was a gambling woman, I would say that it will fall in the next 10 years. Anyone replacing Mubrak will not be storng enough to withstand the might of the Brotherhood and I can bet you that there are more youth ready to side with them than the democratically elected DICTATORSHIP which is currently in power.
Hi jjib – hope things are well in the UK
.
I have to differ a little bit with you – sorry. The Taliban did not infiltrate Afghanistan – they ARE Afghani (from the Pashtun tribe) and they had all the right to shape THEIR society they way they thought it right after their “election” to power. They only fell from grace once they refused the lousy terms for the oil-pipeline contract.
Some bad people say, it (their fall from grace) also had to do with the fact that they brought the drug production down to 187 tons (!!!) per annum as opposed to over 3’000 tons before their regime. Interesting is, that the US/UK promised the Northern Alliance in return for their support in the ongoing war that they will keep their eyes closed to their drug production once they got rid of the Taliban. Today it is over 6000 tons (in words: six thousand!) again and secures the demands and moreso the profit of the “interested parties”.
As for your assessment of the Muslim Brothers and their support among the people: as you don’t live here you don’t have quite the same every day insight and experience. This is nothing against you – it’s just a fact. Very much the same like I don’t have much insight into your society.
As I always say: they (the regime) are undusting from time to time the little white ghost called “Muslim Brotherhood” when they see it necessary in order to scare and distract people – these are mainly the politicians of Europe and of the USoA and naturally also their own citizens. It’s a handy tool to distract attention.
I don’t even blame them for doing it – the only thing I blame the propagandists for is that it is so see-through, so much déjà -vu … so utterly boring! Yawn!
We saw best how much support the MBs have within the citizens when it came to the General Strikes in April and May respectively. The 1st one in April was boycotted by the MBs … and it had a large turnout and many observed it contrary to official press report. The 2nd one in May was supported by the MBs (trying to jump on the band waggon) … and almost no one observed it. For a blind man to understand.
And how much part of the system they really are (and how much dirty deals are done behind closed doors) was very visible when it came to the voting on the ammendments of the constitution. Or when pictures where published, showing the MB delegation entering the White House through the side door during GWBush’s second term. And so on and so forth. The examples are manyfold how handy and cozy the “little white ghost” is.
The youth have rightful demands such as better education, jobs which enables them to feed themselves and a family but most important: they need to be put in the position again to have their very legitimate dreams, aspirations, visions for a better and JUST future. In one word: they need HOPE.
All they get now is the prospect of a corrupt system who sells out the country, culture and their values to the highest bidder and this ad infinitum, supported and held in place by the West and not even a glim light at the end of the tunnel that something might change in the near or far future. Even if they – our youths – do have dreams, visions and hopes they know that it is of no avail and they will be squashed before they even finished dreaming!
And from time to time the West slaps all the dictators a bit on the back of their (gready) hands for a good photo-ops for the Western media … and … goes back to instructing them what to do next.
Beautiful world!
